SAD OUTCOMES FOR WINNERS
Lt. Ver was so proud of displaying his beautiful body. He went around in trunks, notwithstanding the swarms of flies and mosquitoes.
He developed malaria and was taken to the dispensary with chills and fever. But in the dispensary he became very violent and they tied him up to his bed.
The diagnosis of his sickness was MALARIA CEREBRAL!
After a week he died. What a pity, for a very beautiful, almost perfect, body!
Lt. Peñaflorida was awakened by a cold drip of rain falling through the grass roof upon his face at night. He went out of our quarters to shove a galvanized iron piece of roof into the grass roof over his head to plug the leak. He got wet and went back to bed.
The following morning he developed high fever. He was taken to the dispensary. The diagnosis later on was pneumonia. We had Army doctors but no medicine. He later on died, too! What a pity for a boxer’s perfect body!
They were both around 25 years old!
One died of a tiny mosquito bite, the other died of a small drip of rain water! Praise the Lord!
