As Battalion S-2, 1st BCT, I was sent to the Intelligence School in Ft. McKinley for three months’ training. Many of my co-students were newly graduated PMA cadets with the rank of 2nd Lieutenant. They were all bright, but my experience plus my reading intelligence books gave me some advantage over them. Our top-notcher was a 2nd Lieutenant from the PMA but I was second place to him on our graduation in a class of fifty student officers.
Upon my return to the 1st BCT, I organized an Intelligence Class for officers and EM. Many soldiers were surprised to learn that I was one like them, and they could hardly believe it, because in the province there is no chance to go to a night school.
I told them that my success was due to God’s miracles brought about by prayers. To further impress them about God and prayers, I predicted that it wouldn’t be long before I went back to Manila.
This prediction prompted me to go and see Gen. Florencio Selga, who was my boss as Chief, Southern Luzon Military Police Command, when he took me with him from G-2 Section, Headquarters MPC(PA), to become Chief Clerk of S-2 Section, Headquarters Southern Luzon, MNC(PA), and then helped me get commissioned as 2nd Lieutenant, Reserve, and called to active duty.
Gen. Selga was then Chief, Philippine Constabulary in Camp Crame. He got orders for me to be transferred from the Army to Camp Crame Headquarters, P.C.
There I was appointed as Instructor, P.C. School for law subjects and Police Duties, for officers and enlisted men.
After several months Pat and I decided to move to a house near Camp Crame, in 1952.
