Jojo was born with a film covering all over her body and with lots of hair. Pat just loved “Bolut” when she was conceiving her. She was a super-active girl, jumping and jumping on our spring bed like a trampoline.
She was always running instead of walking. One day she fell from our porch, and her arm caught a large nail. We had to rush her to the hospital.
Pat told her to buy KALAMANSI, but she would say KAMALACHI always.
I was already an officer when she was born in the Delgado Clinic on Horan Street, Paco, Manila, under “twilight delivery.” That was then a new way of delivering without much pain. Pat felt good for not suffering too much pain, but it was later on found out that the drug used affected the mother’s nerves and the child’s brain.
Jojo was enrolled in the Crame Primary School. She was always dressed very well. After classes she was always running back home, chased by her boy classmates, like Lando, the son of Col. Bersola.
During the so-called “SALUBON” when Jesus Christ was supposed to have risen and to have been met by his mother, per tradition of the Catholic Church, Jojo was one of the “angels” on a balcony along the way, singing and throwing lots of flowers to the crowd. She got a big rose and threw it on the face of the priest who was leading the prayer and singing. Instead of being a serious procession, everybody was laughing! Jojo and the young girl “angels” were all laughing!
Jojo loved dancing. Her favorite music and dance was “Heel and toe, heel and toe….”
As a child, Jojo was quite pretty and very lively. She was the favorite pupil of her teachers.
