After Tony’s graduation I requested quarters in Allen near the City Hall of Baguio and nearer the St. Louis College, where all our children were enrolled.
The quarters were old U.S. Army Officers Quarters during the liberation days but better than the huts in the Navy Base, Baguio.
There was a chapel inside the Camp and the Clubhouse was located there for officers. I played tennis and badminton but no more swimming.
The marketplace was close to the Camp. We were right in the heart of the city.
In Ft. del Pilar I was teaching Biology, Economics, and Philippine History in the APASEM school at night for extra income, but in Allen I no longer had this income. But Tony and Betty were already earning income and helping us.
Before Tony’s graduation, he was elected as “Mr. Easter King”, with Susan Joaquin, daughter of Capt. Joaquin, P.C., as “Easter Queen” in the Summer Capital. They were paraded in floats around the city. Pat and I were very proud of him. That was in 1963.
We were in Allen when Cpl. Ekejo was Court Martialed for homicide and damage to Government property in the amount of ₱15,000 for being the driver of a 6×6 truck that fell in a deep ravine in Kenon Road while loaded with PMA kitchen personnel and kitchen equipment.
I was his Defense Counsel with Atty. Simforoso Fañgunil, and we acquitted him. In a civil case for the same accident that caused the death of two kitchen personnel, I was able to have him acquitted, too.
There I defended a cousin of Pat, Ruston Apari, for theft of paper from Teacher’s Campus. His only penalty was “disterro” from Baguio, Bangued, Abra.
We often saw Sunday mass in the Pink Sisters convent where Toots served as Acolyte, where Rev. Fr. Lawrence Leising, my high school principal, CSC, was the priest.
Toots wanted to go to the Seminary and made good grades in Grade III, with an award! Betty also graduated with honors!
